What is CPR certification, and why does it matter?

CPR certification verifies you’ve completed hands-on training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, AED use, and choking response from a recognized body — the American Heart Association (AHA), Health & Safety Institute (HSI), or American Red Cross. It matters because survival from sudden cardiac arrest drops 7–10% for every minute defibrillation is delayed, so a trained bystander starting CPR before EMS arrives is the single biggest factor in whether the patient survives. Texas OnSite CPR issues 2-year certifications with both a digital eCard and (for HSI courses) a laminated wallet card.

Not entirely. A 100% online certificate is not accepted by Texas childcare licensing (HHSC/DFPS), healthcare credentialing offices, or OSHA-defended workplace responders — all require hands-on skills testing on a manikin. Texas OnSite CPR offers a blended option instead: complete the AHA or HSI eLearning at home, then attend a 45-60 minute in-person skills session at our Fort Worth, Frisco, or Denton venue. Same recognized card, less seat time.

All certifications issued by Texas OnSite CPR — AHA BLS Provider, HSI First Aid-CPR-AED, HSI Pediatric First Aid-CPR-AED, and HSI CPR-AED only — are valid for two years from the date of class. OSHA mandates that Blood Borne Pathogens be renewed yearly. American Heart Association cards expire on the last day of the issuance month, two years later (e.g., a card issued June 14, 2026 is valid through June 30, 2028). We send automated email renewal notices before your card expires.

Match the certifying body to what your employer or licensing board requires. AHA BLS Provider is required by most hospitals, surgery centers, dental offices, and clinical employers for healthcare staff. HSI (Health & Safety Institute) is accepted by OSHA-regulated workplaces, Texas childcare licensing (HHSC/DFPS), schools, and most non-clinical employers. The clinical content is the same across both organization — they all follow current AHA Guidelines science. Texas OnSite CPR issues both; if you don’t know which your employer accepts, ask them and tell us which to book.

AHA CPR certification is a card issued by the American Heart Association — most commonly the BLS Provider card (formerly ‘BLS for Healthcare Providers’) — verifying training in high-quality CPR, AED use, bag-mask ventilation, and team-based resuscitation for adults, children, and infants. It’s required for nurses, doctors, dentists, EMS, dental hygienists, nursing students, and most clinical staff at hospitals, surgery centers, and dental offices. Texas OnSite CPR offers AHA BLS Provider as a $70 classroom course or $85 blended option. Important note for childcare workers: AHA BLS Provider does NOT meet Texas requirements for Child Care, Foster Care, or Adoption — those require our HSI Pediatric First Aid-CPR-AED course instead, which has the word ‘Pediatric’ on the card as required by Texas HHSC/DFPS.

Verify any AHA eCard at https://ecards.heart.org/student/myecards by entering the eCard code (or your name and email used at registration). The AHA discontinued paper cards — every AHA card issued from a Texas OnSite CPR class is a digital eCard sent to the student’s individual email after class, which is why each student must provide a unique email address rather than a shared one. A laminated wallet copy can be mailed after class for $10 if you want a physical card.

Because the American Heart Association and Health & Safety Institute no longer issues paper certification cards — every card is now a digital eCard delivered to the student’s individual email address. Shared mailboxes (info@, frontdesk@, training@) block delivery, so each student must provide a real, unique email before class. The eCard is then accessed at ecards.heart.org/student/myecards. If you’d like a wallet-sized hard copy, Texas OnSite CPR can mail a laminated card after class for $10 each after you have Claimed your eCard.

Yes — Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC, formerly DFPS) requires the word ‘Pediatric’ to appear on the certification card for licensed child care, foster care, and adoption staff. A standard adult CPR card or even AHA BLS Provider does not satisfy this requirement. Texas OnSite CPR’s HSI Pediatric First Aid-CPR-AED course issues a card that explicitly says ‘Pediatric’ — the right card for daycare workers, foster/adoption applicants, after-school staff, and anyone caring for children professionally.

Yes — Texas OnSite CPR’s HSI Pediatric First Aid-CPR-AED class meets Texas Health & Human Services and Texas Department of Family & Protective Services 2024 Minimum Standards for Licensed Child Care Facilities, Adoption, and Foster Care. The course is hands-on with manikin-based written and skills testing (not self-instructional, as required by Texas), the card explicitly says ‘Pediatric,’ and it’s valid for two years. Available as a $75 public blended class or onsite group training ($520 minimum / $65 per student over 8). New childcare hires must be certified within 90 days of employment.

Most Texas OnSite CPR classes run 2 to 4.5 hours: AHA BLS Provider classroom is about 2.5 hours, HSI CPR-AED only is about 2 hours, full HSI First Aid-CPR-AED is 4 hours (4.5 with the Bloodborne Pathogens add-on), and HSI Pediatric First Aid-CPR-AED is about 4 hours. Blended options shorten the in-person portion to a 45-60 minute skills session after self-paced eLearning at home.

A Texas OnSite CPR course includes hands-on practice on individual manikins with feedback devices (no sharing), one AED trainer for every two students, pocket masks with new individually-wrapped sanitary mouthpieces, a downloadable PDF student manual, projector-led instruction, written and skills testing, and a two-year certification — laminated card plus digital eCard for HSI courses, digital eCard for AHA BLS. Automatic email renewal reminders are sent before your card expires so you never let it lapse.

Wear comfortable clothing you can kneel and move in (jeans, leggings, athletic wear all work), and bring a water bottle. Manikins, AED trainers, pocket masks, mouthpieces, and the student manual are all provided. For blended classes, complete the AHA BLS HeartCode or HSI eLearning portion before you arrive — bring proof of completion (the confirmation email or certificate) to the in-person skills session.

Group CPR training is more cost-effective per student, scheduled at your location and on your calendar, and aligns the whole team on the same renewal cycle. Texas OnSite CPR brings individual manikins for every student (no sharing), one AED trainer per two students, projector and sound, and laminated + digital cards — all included. Group onsite pricing starts at $440 (CPR-AED only, ~2 hours) or $520 (full First Aid-CPR-AED, ~4 hours) for up to 8 students.

Corporate CPR training is onsite First Aid, CPR, and AED instruction delivered to a company’s employees at the workplace, certifying designated first-aid responders. It’s important because OSHA’s First Aid Standard (29 CFR 1910.151) requires a trained responder when a clinic isn’t nearby, and most workers’ compensation insurers and corporate safety programs treat CPR training as effectively required. Texas OnSite CPR has delivered corporate training across DFW since 2005 — past clients include Holt Cat, GE Power, FedEx, ThyssenKrupp, Bombardier, and DFW Airport.
